Before Spring Hits… Let’s Get This Off Your Plate

Hi Reader,

As we wrap up March, I want to come back to something I think more parents need to hear:

Self-awareness is a better predictor of long-term success than GPA or test scores.

Not because grades don’t matter…

…but because life asks for more than knowing how to perform well in school.

It asks your teen to:

  • make decisions
  • handle stress
  • adjust when things don’t go as planned

And that’s where self-awareness changes everything.

So what’s the Return on Investment (ROI) of a self-aware teen?

Let’s make this really practical.

1. Lower College Costs (and Less Starting Over)

When students don’t know themselves, they guess.

They:

  • change majors
  • transfer schools
  • lose time and momentum

But when they understand how they’re wired—what fits and what doesn’t—

👉 They make more aligned decisions from the beginning
👉 They stick with paths that actually make sense for them

That’s not just clarity…

That’s real money and time saved.

2. Higher Confidence (Without Constant Reassurance)

A lot of teens are quietly wondering:

“Am I doing this right?”
“Is everyone else ahead of me?”

Self-awareness shifts that.

👉 They stop constantly comparing
👉 They start trusting their own direction

Confidence becomes less about outside validation and more about:

“This fits me. I know why I’m doing this.”

3. Mental Resilience (When Life Gets Hard—Because It Will)

Stress isn’t going away.

But a self-aware teen:

  • understands their triggers
  • notices how they respond under pressure
  • has tools that actually work for them

They still have hard moments…

but they don’t stay stuck in them as long.

What I Want for Your Teen

Of course, I want them to graduate.

But more than that…

I want them to leave your home with a manual for themselves.

So when things feel uncertain (and they will at times), they don’t shut down.

They know:

  • how to make a decision
  • how to handle discomfort
  • how to take the next step forward

What I’m Seeing Right Now

A mom told me recently:

“I’m just glad you’re taking something off my plate. I know they’ll listen to you.”

And the next day, she shared

That shift—from feeling stuck to having direction- can happen quicker than most people expect.

Before Spring Gets Busy…

If your teen is:

  • stuck
  • overwhelmed
  • unsure what’s next

This is exactly the kind of support I provide.

I have a few openings for a 1:1 YouMap® Intensive, where we:
✔ build real self-awareness
✔ reduce anxiety around decisions
✔ create a clear, personalized path forward

Let’s Get One More Thing Off Your Plate

If this has been on your mind…

👉 just hit reply and we’ll find a time to talk.

No pressure—just a conversation about what your teen might need next.

Final Thought

Grades can open doors.

But self-awareness is what helps them walk through those doors
and keep going once they’re inside.

Permission to Laugh (Even When Parenting Feels Heavy)

This might feel like a strange question…

When was the last time you really laughed—without immediately feeling like you shouldn’t?

For many foster, adoptive, and kinship parents, joy can start to feel complicated.
How do you laugh when things feel hard?
How do you hold both love and exhaustion at the same time?

That’s why I’m honored to be speaking at the
Spring Thriving Family Summit: Permission to Laugh—Rediscovering joy, laughter, and hope in your parenting journey.

This is a free, virtual event created to support parents who are carrying a lot—and could use a little more lightness, connection, and hope.

Click HERE if you do NOT want to receive promotional emails about the Thriving Family Summit.

👉 Save your spot here:

Because you don’t have to earn joy.

You’re allowed to experience it—even now.

Today is your last chance to access the Teen Savvy Parent Summit before it closes again.

If you’re like most parents I talk to, finding time to sit and learn while raising teens isn’t easy. That’s exactly why I love that there’s an option to purchase extended access—you don’t have to rush through it.

You can come back to these conversations when you need them most—whether that’s during a hard week, a tough conversation, or a moment where you’re just not sure what to do next.

Hi Reader, If you're parenting a teen or young adult, you've probably heard it. "I don't know what I want to do." And honestly? My first instinct used to be — okay, they're just avoiding. They don't want to think about it. They'll figure it out eventually. But I kept seeing something else underneath that. Because here's what's actually running through their head: What if I pick wrong? What if I'm not even good at anything? What if I try and everyone watches me fail? So they stall. They go...

Hi Reader, One of the moms from last week’s young adult group said something that I hadn't thought about before. She said, "I’m just glad you’re taking something off my plate. I know they will listen to you." If you have a teenager, you probably understand exactly what she meant. Parents carry a lot. You’re helping with school. You’re managing schedules. You’re worrying about their mental health. You’re trying to help them make good decisions about their future. And sometimes you are also trying...
